What type of spaces will be in the Sunshine Hospitality Home?
We have spaces designed to offer comfort and community, compassion, and convenience. Comfort and community areas include a guest reception, a great room, a faith room, art- music room, a game/play room, a patio, and others. Compassion areas consist of private day rooms, guest rooms, family lounges, and dining areas. Convenience areas offer a mother’s lounge, locker rooms, a wellness space, guest laundry, a community pantry, a volunteer room, and a mail room, among others.
How many people would the hospitality home be able to host?
The Sunshine Hospitality Home is able to host between 32-52 people at one time. The offers 14 guest rooms. The guest rooms vary in size and amenities to cater to different sized families and their unique needs. This number was determined based on current needs and anticipated growth in the health care industry in the area.
How long will families be able to stay in the Sunshine Hospitality Home?
Stays can be as short as an afternoon, one night or as long as several months, depending on the family’s situation.
How much does it cost to stay at the Sunshine Hospitality Home?
Typically families either stay at no cost or are asked to make a small donation around $40 per day. The donation would be waived for those who cannot afford it. The difference is made up through donations. Thanks to generous contributions, a family wouldn’t be turned away because of their inability to pay.
Can health care patients being treated by health care providers outside Altru Health System still utilize the facility?
Yes, the Sunshine Hospitality Home would serve any person (pending referral), traveling to Grand Forks to fulfill their health care needs, no matter their health care provider.
What type of patients/families will be served?
Patients who are traveling to Grand Forks to be treated and receive their health care needs in Grand Forks hospitals and medical facilities, and their caregivers would be eligible.
Who would own and operate the Sunshine Hospitality Home?
As the project progresses, the goal is to donate the Sunshine Hospitality Home to the community through Altru Health System. Ultimately, the home would be owned and operated by Altru and they would be responsible for program development, standards, patient referral and operations. The facility would be available to patients of other providers in Grand Forks including Sanford Health, Riverview Clinic, and others.
Where would the proposed hospitality home be located?
The location is just west of Altru’s Main Campus north of Sertoma Park. As of 2014 Altru Health System has formally gifted the land to the project.
What is the proposed timeline and fundraising goal of the project?
We continue to plan and fundraise, and we will be breaking ground in 2017 and hopefully open up for patients and their families in 2018. We are committed to raise funds sufficient to make this a truly unique and beneficial place, which would include an endowment to support operations.
”Do you have 501(c)(3) status with the IRS and if so, what does that mean?
Yes, the Sunshine Memorial Foundation has been granted 501(c)(3) status by the IRS. Being “501(c)(3)” means that we have been approved by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt, charitable organization.
